Oh hello! Didn't see you there. Are you a silly scientist? Sure you are. Do you have a photo of you in the field doing silly things that you would like to be painted and potentially even displayed in a museum if everything goes correctly?
Hi, my name is Amy. Masters student in Zoology working with Rick Taylor and also an aspiring artist. I've decided to paint some graduate scientists doing silly things and submitting them to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum's exhibit opening in the fall which calls for artists in the community to submit their work!
What would become of the photo? Well- you may have seen the painting of Mikko as Loren Reisberg holding all those sunflowers tenderly against the red background... And that's kinda what I'm going for. If you grant me permission to draw your photo, you will definitely be immortalized in the painting doing your research or at least interacting with Biodiversity. I will write a description of you, and your work, and some cool information to share with the public. Of course, it's not guarantee the art will be featured in the Beaty as there's a screening process- but there will still be a painting with you glorified on the canvas, and me- improving my skills.
Send me a picture of you doing silly science to firstname.lastname@example.org. I am looking for one or two more pictures! Unfortunately due to time constraints I may not select everyone's silly photos to paint for the next few months before the submission deadlines. But perhaps we could turn them all into some fancy collage later on showcasing the heart of the Biodiversity community here at UBC.
Best wishes, and stay healthy!
